An architecture for Content Distribution Internetworking

چکیده
The purpose of this thesis is to discuss issues of design, implementation and evaluation of a protocols architecture that can effectively support the interoperation and cooperation of separately administered Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). In general, a CDN can be thought of as an infrastructure that provides scalable content delivery from content providers to content consumers: specifically, a CDN can increase the capacity of a web site by delivering content from caches which are located closer to the end users than the origin server. In order to enable a CDN to scale beyond its own administrative and physical borders, it can be interconnected to multiple, independently administered CDNs to form a federation of CDNs, termed Content Distribution Internetwork (CDI). A CDI allows every CDN in that CDI both to augment the number of potential content consumers and to get the content access faster, i.e. reducing the user response time. Although the CDI emerging technology has stimulated the interest of international standardization bodies such as the IETF, a standard architecture for CDIs has not been defined, yet. This thesis aims at contributing to the definition of one such standard architecture by (i) analysing solutions to problems of content distribution in CDIs and (ii) proposing and evaluating a specific protocols architecture for information exchange in CDIs.

An architecture for Content Delivery Networks federation
The Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) federation, also named Content Distribution Internetwork (CDI) has been proposed by the CDI IETF Working Group, but currently there are not running examples. In this position paper we analyses the issues concerning this new research area and propose a possible architecture for a CDI.
متن کاملUsing P2P Techniques for Content Distribution Internetworking: A Research Proposal
In this paper we discuss the use of algorithms and techniques, currently deployed in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems, in the design of Content Distribution Internetworks (CDIs). Specifically, we propose a CDI design approach that addresses issues of request routing, content delivery, and replication, based on P2P techniques.
متن کاملA Platform for Request Routing in Content Distribution Internetworks
In this paper we discuss issues of design of a platform that can support effectively the internetworking of independent Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). Specifically, our work focuses on the design of the Request-Routing Internetworking System (RRIS), i.e. the entity responsible for forwarding client requests to the CDNs that can best satisfy them. In order to take routing decisions, the RRIS ...

متن کاملNetwork Coding Meets Information-Centric Networking
The focus of user behavior in the Internet has changed over the recent years towards being driven by exchanging and accessing information. Many advances in networking technologies have utilized this change by focusing on the content of an exchange rather than the endpoints exchanging the content. Network coding and informationcentric networking are two examples of these technology trends, each ...
